Legacy

Let us make our path lead to something more.

When you fail, do not grieve and do not mourn,

so that when someone looks at your life and adventures

they know that you did not just venture,

helplessly.

We must leave a legacy,

a reminder of our purpose

and all those who failed to hurt us

because we stuck with those who heard us.

Yes, we were nervous,

yes, we were scared

of life,

but look how well we fared.

There is no longer room for anger and strife.

Look at all the creatures we beat

and the dangers we are yet to defeat.

Don't you dare take a seat.

Can’t you see?

Please, stand tall.

Do not fall

before you've given life your all,

before you've given every single little word,

before you have flown and soared

over this cruel world.

When you are gone, what will you leave?

What is the label you want to receive?

You have an opportunity.

How will you be seen

under the magnifying glass of scrutiny

of standards and expectations

of complications

and obligations?

There will only be one chance in your way

and you most certainly cannot

just let it go away.

I know you are tired

and that we are all hard-wired

to give up when it gets hard

but don't let that be in your cards.

Change your path to a different route.

Make sure to plant your roots.

Branch out your stems

and let your flowers thrive.

Don't just live to survive,

live to strive.

Your identity is your own.

Your candles have not yet been blown.

Let the world remember how you shone.

Let them recall how you not only spoke but you showed

your strength and ability.

Don't let anyone undermine your capability.

Don't just sit quietly

so people say you were behaved.

Don’t be obsessed with being accepted by society

because the most pointless thing is waiting to be saved.

Get up now, be loud.

Be proud.

Make a sound.

Tell people to gather around.

Stand up for yourself.

Stand up on the highest shelf.

Don’t just scream it,

but be it.

Shout it from the rooftop.

And don't halt when they tell you to stop.

Understand how important it is to leave a mark

that is indelible and lights up this depressing dark.

Use your time wisely,

sensibly,

and commendably.

Do not assume you have more

because that will close your door

to possibility.

Now is the only opportunity you have

to leave your legacy.
